The 150-square-metre apartment is located on the fourth floor of a late 19th-century building in the heart of Rome’s Esquilino district—one of the capital’s most vibrant and rapidly evolving neighbourhoods.
The project was commissioned by a pianist and his family, who sought to transform the apartment’s rigid layout, defined by a sequence of rooms and a central corridor, into a contemporary, fluid space while preserving a “classic” character that honours the identity of the place.
The design centres around dark walnut wood, used as a unifying element throughout a series of bespoke furnishings including wardrobes, panelling, kitchen units, and bathroom cabinetry. The richness of the dark wood evokes a classical atmosphere, balanced by a light oak parquet floor and white walls that brighten the interior, creating a refined contrast between tradition and modernity.
