The Rita Levi Montalcini Research Laboratories at the INMI Lazzaro Spallanzani are conceived as an architecture capable of evolving alongside scientific research. Inspired by the organizational principles of the living cell, the building is designed as a dynamic organism where space, infrastructure and technology work together to support flexibility, adaptability and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Its compact form minimizes land consumption and improves environmental performance, while a system of modular, reconfigurable laboratories allows the facility to respond to the changing needs of medical research over time. Rather than a purely technical container, the project envisions the laboratory as an open, resilient and sustainable research infrastructure, fostering knowledge exchange, innovation and scientific discovery.
