The New Rita Levi Montalcini Laboratory Hub at INMI Lazzaro Spallanzani IRCCS is designed to strengthen the Institute’s capacity to respond to present and future healthcare challenges, in light of the lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic. The project proposes a flexible, modular and interoperable building, conceived to adapt over time and to integrate physically and digitally with the existing campus.

The facility includes advanced research laboratories with high safety and biocontainment standards, diagnostic and experimental areas, technical support spaces and shared environments that encourage interdisciplinary collaboration. Digital infrastructures allow real-time data exchange and connection with national and international research networks.

Inspired by the human cell, the building is envisioned as a dynamic organism, governed by an integrated management core that regulates environmental performance, energy use and safety. A responsive envelope, renewable energy systems and circular resource management ensure efficiency, autonomy and sustainability. Flexible interiors support innovation, resilience and long-term evolution, reinforcing INMI’s role as a center of excellence in global health research.
